Last weekend we did a major clean up of the house, getting ready for me to "go back to work" and also to prepare for the newly hired housekeeper to come on Monday (insert me dancing and jumping up and down here). I was going through papers and found a bunch of "What Ryan is up to" posts that I submitted to the playgroup board that I belonged to through my pregnancy with Ryan and much of his toddler years. It was a blast reading them and thinking back to the way he used to be, so I decided I certainly need to do the same for Nate. So here goes...
Nate is 9 1/2 months now. He is an incredibly happy little boy, who is very quick to smile and will easily play on his own for quite some time until he becomes sleepy or hungry. He is very easy for me to read, so with a mere fuss or two I can determine what he needs and help him out in that area.
He is getting more and more steady on his feet, and rarely falls down now but has yet to take steps on his own. He has "let go" a time or two to stand freely for several seconds, but he plops down on his butt when he is ready to move on instead of attempting steps.
He is an eating machine. Before he turned 9 months he began to show amazing interest in whatever we were eating. We started giving him tastes of our food, and he's never looked back. He doesn't eat baby food anymore. He'll knaw on pizza crusts, devour sticky rice at Japanese restaurants, and smack his lips at the glance of guacamole. At home he eats Gerber meat sticks, but also Vienna sausages, cheddar cheese, Easy Mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, peas, green beans, banana pieces, peach pieces... just about anything that you can break into small bites and stick on his tray.
A few weeks ago he started shaking his head no. He mostly does this when I try to feed him something he does want. He looks so freaking cute asserting himself. He is pretty vocal, but it's still alot of da da da, ba ba ga ga, and uuuuuuuuhhhhhhh. Still no ma ma ma, but we practice every day.
He likes to pull my hair and hit me. He laughs when I cry out or give him a stern "No!". He laughs. We are working on that one.
He LOVES to wrestle with Daddy. He often tackles his stuffed animals with the same vigor, laying on top of them and chewing on their noses.
He has eight teeth right now, but he screams holy terror if you try to look in his mouth to see them. I sneak a peek by tickling him and making him laugh. He is extremely ticklish and is SO fun to tickle.
He gives adorable open mouth kisses, planting slobbery lips all over our cheeks. He has become quite cuddly and sometimes will come over to me and lay on me with his head on my chest for a quick love.
I totally adore him.
